(A compiler or solver of crossword puzzles)

A crossword puzzle can be such fun

And quite addictive ‘til it’s done.

I wrack my brain over illusionary clues

I search the dictionary and guess and muse.

Sometimes, I am sure, the word does not exist

That is needed to fit the space upon the list.

I’ve tried these for years and surely, I vow,

My head should be bursting with answers by now.

Then I struggle again to work still another

And try to remember that “something or other.”

I forget all the answers to clues they did just give

Oh! Alas and alack, my brain is but a seive.
